On Tuesday 15. October the starting shot sounds for the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition, in which 16 talented String Quartets and Wind Quintets compete on three venues in Copenhagen. You can follow them live, on DR P2 or on live stream through all rounds.

From Tuesday 15. to Saturday 19. October the Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition will be held with 16 talented String Quartets and Wind Quintets competing for the honor, solid money prizes and future engagements on the venues of DR Koncerthuset, The Royal Danish Library and The Royal Danish Academy of Music.

Whether you adore classical music or just love competitions you can follow the 16 ensembles live throughout the week where great musical experiences combined with real competitive mood will come true.
1. Round in DR Koncerthuset Studio 2, 15. and 16. October at 10 am.
2. Round in The Black Diamond (Royal Danish Library) 17. and 18. October at 12 am.
Wind Quintet Finale at The Royal Danish Academy of Music 19. October at 11 am.
String Quartet Finale at The Royal Danish Academy of Music 19. October at 5 pm.

Live stream and radio

All rounds will be live streamed on carlnielseninternational.dk and You Tube with live blog and comments by journalist Andrew Mellor, and the DR P2 radio channel will broadcast massively throughout the week so that viewers and listeners can find their favorites along the young ensembles. The Violin Channel is media partner and will broadcast the String Quartet Finale on the 19. on their Facebook page.
Prizes and jury
The competition has two different categories and therefore also two juries. They consist of 5 prominent international instrumentalists with great string quartet and wind quintet experience. The Chairmen of the juries are Prof. Günter Pichler (string quartet) and Bjørn Carl Nielsen (wind quintet).

Three major cultural institutions

The competition is a collaboration between three major Danish cultural institutions: Danish Broadcasting Corporation, Royal Danish Library and the Royal Danish Academy of Music. The Carl Nielsen International Chamber Music Competition is exclusively for string quartet and wind quintet and was established in 2015 to create more focus on the brilliant chamber music works of the Danish composer Carl Nielsen by letting it be interpreted by the best young musicians from all over the world. It is now held for the 2nd time.
