String Quartets in the Final

Can you believe this high level among the young talents! After an incredible day in the Round 2, the jury has finally decided which of the String Quartets we will hear in the Finale tomorrow!

Today we have heard romantic Mendelssohn, Brahms and Grieg quartets together with breathtaking tones by Shostakovich and Bartok. The contemporary piece by young Danish composer Matias Vestergaard is the strings’ commissioned piece  - there is a special prize for the best interpretation of that presented in the Finale on Saturday at the marvelous concert hall at the Royal Danish Academy of Music at 5 p.m. In the Finale all string quartets play Carl Nielsen and Beethoven or Schubert.

The Finale ensembles are:

Quatuor Elmire, France - 17:00

Balourdet Quartet, USA - 18:15

Simply Quartet, Austria 19:30
